Delighted to find a website that has a history of the Rachael Douglas. I am the proud owner of an original painting of the boat, which was painted from a photograph taken as she entered St Abbs harbour, around 1990. The painting was by an artist named Robert Black, who used to run a Bed and Breakfast with his wife in Forres. We were staying with Mr and Mrs Black whilst renovating our own wooden motor sailer (Gola: 1962 Forbes of Sandhaven 28 footer)at Findhorn Boatyard. I had admired the painting in the B&B, being similar to our own vessel. Mr Black was a keen artist, and painted many pictures from his own photographs. He had offered the painting of the Rachael Douglas to the owners at the time, for a cost, but this had been declined as the owners were trying to find the money for repairs to the vessel. Mr Black sold me the painting in 2001 at my request and it now has pride of place on the living room wall. I realised the Rachael Douglas has been sold and renovated a few years ago after an appearance in Classic Boat magazine. Thought this might be of interest to the Trust.

Best Wishes, Neil and Wendy Corstorphine.

Glad to see the old lady is being looked after so well,my father was John Baxter Douglas, or better known as Jacky Baxter,he would have been proud to see her looking her best, (apart from the tips of her masts which were always blue).but we dont really mind. After she was sold, we often used to visit St Abbs just to see her how she was doing, and like us all she was begining to look her age. but now she is looking her best again, we will have to take a trip to see her once more. Thank you for your hard work.

My Dad was a Whitby fisherman, so was I for 20 years, he was great friends with Tom and Bella Douglas, the only holidays we had were spent with them at Seahouses.
Dad was a cobleman and I fished in cobles and keelboats out of Whitby. I now have a little 28 foot coble called Morning Star, built by Tony Goodall at Sandsend, I bought her last August and she had an awful wheelhouse on here and I have put her back as she was when Tony built her

Thanks David, It's good to hear from people around the world who appreciate our boats; you've obviously got a real soft spot for old Rachel Douglas.

Hi - just came across the Rachel Douglas article by chance. When I was a kid we stayed at the Wilson's boarding house for our summer holidays. I went out on the boat several times. Our eldest daughters teddy bear is actually called Rachel Douglas.
Let me know if there is anyway to participate in the boats upkeep.
I used to use the name in writing technical documents for computer applications and systems. Rachel Douglas was my fictitious user.

thanks
